Victorian lockets are fascinating pieces of jewellery that reflect the historical context of their time. The popularity of photography in the late 1800s paved the way for the creation of these lockets, which were designed to hold large, photographs of loved ones. Due to the size of the photographs, the lockets had to be correspondingly large to fit them in. This trend for larger jewellery was a reflection of the bold and optimistic public spirit of the time, as it was a period of great innovation and prosperity. The Industrial Revolution brought technological advances and new opportunities for trade and commerce, which led to an expanding middle class with a greater disposable income. This newfound wealth and confidence were reflected in the fashion of the era, with jewellery becoming larger, bolder, and more ornate.
